Nineteen; all the cool people are doing it

Celebrating my birthday in New York City for the second year in a row is a a dream come true. Third times a trend, so it's all up to next year! Being able to meet up with two really great friends to celebrate and to spend the day with my incredible family was the best gift. Since it was my birthday, I thought I had every right to break out the disco pants (also from Anthropologie). So I did. And let me tell you, I caught everyones attention walking down those Manhattan streets. I can't tell you why in all of the pictures I'm wearing that overly furry scarf. It wasn't that cold. And it wasn't making a statement. So, cool. Now I have no idea what I wore under that mess.

Hitting all of the most random places we could find, we explored the Harry Potter exhibition that ends this week. You have to go see it if you're in town!!!!!!). As we tried to hail a cab we ran into and uncovered the mystery that is the Jeykll & Hyde Pub that was actually so fun and entertaining. The entrance is a telephone booth which instantly made it a go. Next, made our way to Bloomingdales and ate our way through Dylan's Candy Bar, before, hitting Hell's Kitchen Flea Market. This trip especially (and last year when I went) I have been so incredibly lucky with my finds there. You may ask what I got. I'll tell you. I got two J.Crew cashmere sweaters for a whopping $35? I thought it was an early April Fools joke, too. And some jewelry that you'll see me wear in a later post. Also, my mom scored three vintage purses. I will do a post about these beauties later. But, I will tell you that there was lots oogling, ogling, and drooling all night over these gems.
Moving on. Beauty and Essex for dinner. This place is the coolest. Not a great area and the entrance is a pawn shop. Weird. But once you make it to the restaurant, it's gorgeous, I tell you, with chandeliers and classy, hip people, and delicious tapas filling the rooms. We skimped out on dessert and made our way to Big Gay Ice Cream in the East Village for Salty Pimps and Bea Arthurs, where my mom spotted Matt Damon!!!

Enough reminiscing about my birthday. After all, it was three days ago. Now, I'm just sad.

Madison Square Park

This is another of the many posts to come from my New York trip! These were taken throughout our day wandering. The whole trip was kind of a blur. One of those where you have to stop and think what day it is and what you have done even that day, let alone the previous day. The only thing that sort of connects the dots is by looking at the outfits in your pictures. That's what I love about family trips. Everyone is so caught up with making the most of their time together, seeing everything they want to see, visit everything everyone else wants to see, and try to eat at every restaurant possible. It ends up becoming insane, but such an amazing kind of insane. I could not tell you what day this was, for the life me, but I can tell you that it was a really great day. It was a great day because did you look at my jeans? There very pretty. Thanks Anthropologie for that incredible sale, by the way. Also, that jacket thing that is all sorts of soft and fuzzy and comfy. Well, here's another outfit brought to you by the Suitcase Packed By A Big Loser. Another thing to point out is the bag. It's my mom vintage Coach that we found digging around a random thrift store in Las Vegas. That day was maj. (Courtesy of Rachel Zoe).

The bottom two picture are of my and my brother at the MoMath, Museum of Math. When the website said that it was designed for ages up to 8th grade I was so excited to spend a day being nerdy. No luck. The only thing my brother and I found interesting was this tricycle with square wheels. I probably only thought it was fun because it's the only type of bike I could ride. Better luck next time.

Happy Holidays!

For those of you that celebrate Passover, Easter, or both, I hope you're having a fantastic healthy and happy holiday. This is an outfit from a seder at my family's apartment in New York City where I got to celebrate with the whole family, many of which I haven't seen since last Passover. It's always such a happy time of year. These photos are kind of dark which counteracts the mood of the holidays; however, I loved the background so much that I couldn't resist. You'll never guess where these pictures are taken. Okay, you twisted my arm. They were taken in the elevator at The Standard Hotel where we stayed!! This hotel was very modern and everywhere you turned there were new amazing details.

This skirt is one of my favorites. I bought it on clearance over the winter holidays and it's moved on up in the closet ever since. Fast! It's very comfortable and its so easy to just throw on. I paired it with this navy cowl neck top from Gap. It doesn't quite give the look I was going for with this skirt, but I wasn't thinking when I decided to pack for this vacation, so this was one of the only options. Over the night, I became very fond of the combination because it brings out the dark lines in the skirt which are questionably blue or black. Going with a simplistic look, I didn't think jewelry was necessary and I love it without anything on my wrists.

Prep City

Welcome to my lovely room with a lovely view and lovely bags in my lovely little world. I don't have to feel guilty about laying in bed if I just want to relax because I feel fully immersed in the city from under my pristine white sheets. I'd say it's quite perfect. The days here in Manhattan have been very busy exploring the Met, MoMA, MoMath, the streets, sample sales, parks, food, and everything else!! You can't tell by the sky in these pictures, but it was actually raining and cold outside. I had to throw on my well-worn Hunters for the day. Instead of going all grunge, I decided to break out my J.Crew style to prep it up with some gingham and a cashmere sweater. Lucky for you I didn't pop my collar.

Short and sweet because we're going to try Afghanistan food for the first time. It's so nice to be in a city where there's a restaurant for everything.

On the Streets

As I started dressing for my second day around the city, I realized packing light is the worst advice in the whole entire world. These next 9 days are going to be so incredibly interesting with the mix and match outfits. So, here, I present you with the same idea as the first day. I guess I'm really into the white. Figures, because the weather has been so white lately. But I love this look with the all contrast the boots, necklace, and jacket gives to the otherwise very simple idea. These boots were a win.

I love New York because you find everything here. Since when is graffiti beautiful canvas artwork to take outfit photos in front of? This girl's not complaining. All of this wandering is making me so busy and exhausted and happy and very absent from technology which is such a nice relaxing break with my family in the best city ever. Phones been on silent for days now and has been "lost" way too many times. Sometimes it's nice to just be MIA with the people who matter most. What else do I need other than what I'm in walking distance of? Exactly.

Lower East Side

Finally, in NYC! Friday morning, I arrived in New York City where my family was here to meet me. After arriving at the up-and-coming The Standard hotel and getting freshened up, we wondered around the lower east side. Here are pictures of some of the city's greatness we found along the way. It's such an amazing feeling to be back in the great NYC with family for a solid 10 days of touring, shopping, wandering, discovering, laughing, and making incredible life memories; this truly is the best city.

Coming off a plane but not sacrificing style, I decided to throw on the epitome of comfort chic. This black huge jacket thing is a little gem I discovered at The Market New York in Greenwich Village during my visit in February. I eyed it from across the room, love at first sight style, and I knew it was mine. It's so out of my usual style comfort zone, but that's kind of what I loved about it. I feel like I'm capable of anything in this. Plus, it's the softest material in the world (well, except cashmere, that's impossible to beat). These JBrand jeans have the perfect amount of stretch to ensure full capacity comfort made for wondering AND these not-so-cowboyesque boots had to join the ensemble. Finally, color was needed in order to not look like Plain Jane, no offense to her.

PS Something about that girl's jacket, topknot, structured bag and bootie was so in spirit of what I was going for this day. And she was adorable. So, that's that.

Class & Cold

Photos by Drew Osumi

Here's typical Syracuse class attire. First, throw on your comfiest jeans. These comfy pair are from H&M of all places. And were only $10?? I was shocked and thought I read it wrong. Especially after I tried them on and never wanted to take them off. Apparently, it's a real thing and that's not just a major markdown. Go get on that. Next, we have the flannel. Remember how I mentioned that I went to Bass Pro Shops while I was in Vegas. Well this was a score from Black Friday there, so you know its legit. Then, we have the vest. Which, honestly, I'm not sure why I have two vests here. The weather man must get a tremendous laugh at my wimpy closet. I guess I just felt tough with a flannel and vest? The important part of this outfit are the Hunter boots. See, I had never heard of them until I came to the East Coast, but who would have known I would live and die in these suckers. Well, hopefully not die, but definitely stay sane in these things. I also notice in the bottom picture that My boots look like they have taken some battle wounds to them. It's just the salt from the ground when there's snow out. It, too, makes me look really really tough. So here, I present you my not so fabulous college-girl-wakes-up-and-throws-on-whatevers-closest attire. Enjoy.
